Default RE: 270 wsm is it flatter than a 7mm rem mag

ORIGINAL: CBM SC

I just researched this a lot and ended up buying a 270 WSM !! I whitetail hunt mostly so I really compared 140 grain bullets from Federal, Winchester, and Remington ! The 270 wsm "on paper" shoots a little flatter and has a little more energy down range !! I don't know about the real world much but @300 yards my gun has less drop than my buddy's 7 mag...........but it's not a whole lot .....probably 2" of difference !! I think he was shooting 140's like me but he may not have been............I'll have to ask him !!
I'm not stuck comparing factory load data. The truth is that today's 7mm Rem. Mag. commercial loads have been "wimpified" to the point that they barely beat the 7X57mm Mauser! I can safely get 3350 FPS from my 26" Ruger No. 1 7mm Rem Mag. using 140-grain Nosler Partition bullets, and 3050 FPS with the 175-grain Nosler Partition bullets. I doubt that there are ANY commercial loads for the .270. 7mm, or .300 WSM's that will beat that 175-grainer for energy on target at 300 yards (2430 ft/lb). I zero this load to be +3.5" @ 100 yards. It hits +4" at 200, is dead on at 300, and is -9.5" at 400 yards. I can aim halfway up the chest of a broadside elk all the way out to 400 yards, and kill him with 1 shot. Since the rifle is a single-shot, this is the way I like it. For all smaller game, I use a single-shot 7X57mm Ruger No. 1A, unless I'm shoot ing my .73 cal. flintlock Jaeger!
