positive attitude, and optimism until the last minute of the last day of the hunt.

This statement is one of the truest I can possibly state. This year I guided in Idaho at an operation that was literally not up to snuff. The camp moral was horrible and the place was a wreck and I am really glad they are no longer in business for everyone's sake. That being said.....
I guided two of the most experienced hunters in the camps and these guys literally knew more about hunting then I did. They had both lived in Alaska and hunted every animal an Alaskan can hunt and almost all of their trips were successful and they had some really amazing stories. I personally enjoyed every minute with them, but on their last day they were frustrated, upset and were not optimistic nor positive about seeing animals. I literally would not give up and because of that about 4:30pm on the last day of their trip, I spotted 4 elk. We decided to get a closer look and spent the next hour moving the 600 yards to get them in range at about 300 yards. My hunter had a clear shot at the elk and that range and yet did not have confidence. He decided to move closer to a 140 yard shot and missed the shot. He was very upset and we searched the area for over an hour looking for blood or anything but it was a clean miss. I know that if he had been positive and optimistic he would of had the elk down and the steaks in the fridge! He lacked confidence in me, in the outfit and in seeing elk or being successful.
Out there if you are going to go on any hunt, you must always believe that you are going to be successful and you must remain positive each and every minute of each and every day. Your success will be because of your great attitude and your guide will work that much harder to please you if you are enjoyable to be around and always upbeat about what lies ahead of the next ridge!
