Default National Parks, No Hunting areas, Frustration.....

I had to pass this along. I don't know how many of you see really big deer regularly but I can't say that I do. I work on MDI which is primarily owned by the Federal Government as part of Acadia National Park. As there is no hunting at all on the island the deer roam free of any worries aside from vehicles which regularly thin the herd.

Well this morning coming into work at approximately 0500 hrs (or 5:00 AM for those not familiar with 24 hr time) just outside my workplace there was a HUGE buck just standing alongside the road. He had as they all do here no worries whatsoever. Me on the other hand, I had worries as to whether or not I could keep the car in the road. It has been many years since I have seen a deer that big in the woods. The rack on this thing was huge being easily a 10 pointer but I expect it was 12 or more!

As I recovered and eventually parked I walked towards my building where I found another 4 deer, all doe, standing next to our company flag pole. They just walked away peacefully into the dark while I strolled towards the building.

We see deer here almost daily but that buck was the largest I've seen on this island in the 8 years I've been working here. I love seeing them but they certainly make me wish that hunting season wasn't over!
