RE: most shots taken to kill a deer?
I once shot an old mulie buck five times with a 280 Remington. He was standing on a side hill about 250 yards away. I laid down with a rolled up jacket for a rest and fired. He took one funny little hop with just his front feet then just stood there. I shot again, Nothing. I shot again, still nothing. I got up and walked about 75 yards further toward him. I laid down again and fired two more shots. The whole time, he has not moved a hair. I got up to put more shells in the gun. I looked up just in time to see him just tip over nose first. When i skinned him out,all five shots were through the chest behind the shoulder in about a 4 inch circle. I now realize that he was dead on his feet after the first shot. I think he just stiffened up some muscles and wouldn't tip over.
