One mind set you have to over come is arrow speed. I know, a compound shooter is alway's thinking how fast does my arrow fly to a target. But, in traditional archery, you are more concerned with proper arrow spine and proper arrow weight. A good shooting recurve at 55#'s with 10 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight can get 170fps. A longbow at the same specifications should do around 150 to 160 fps.
