Out of curiosity, why not the AK?

A thousand bucks is a lot of money and you could get yourself a really primo AR for just a few hundred more. Or you could do what you trying to do and just get a new upper for the one you've got. Though I'm sure some would argue that a franken gun isn't ideal for protection let alone EP.

Hopefully the SHTF won't happen.
