For an OPEN sight, I recommend an English "shallow "V" rear and a large, ivory or gold bead up front. This is the so-called "express sight setup", and is the fastest of all OPEN iron sight arrangements.

Personally, I prefer a micrtometer-adjustable aperture rear sight like the Williams Foolproof and a Redfiled "Sourdough" front blade for iron sights, rather than any open rear. This is faster, and more accurate as well. I would include the ghost-ring type rear here, but it lacks the adjustment latitude of a micrometer type. But once it is zeroed, it is fast and accurate.

I suggest you look at the Williams Gunsight Co. catalog, and also take a look at the open sights made by New England Custom Guns (theirs are expensive, but the best of all made in the USA....)
