RE: BPS vs all other pumps
You made a very smart choice. Not only will he enjoy that gun, but his son will enjoy that gun when he hands it down to him years from now. I have one shot gun and it’s the BPS. I got very lucky when I bought mine. I’ll explain. I bought mine used here in Springfield 45 minutes from where you live. It was in mint condition and had an extra Browning slug barrel that came with it. The other barrel is a 28 inch vented rib bird barrel.
I looked at the Mossberg combo and the Remington combo. I drove my self nuts going back and forth trying to decide between the two of them never even considering a Browning or anything else. One day I was on my way home from work and stopped at a carry out to grab something to drink. This carry out sells the basics but has a little section in it where they buy, sell and trade guns and stuff. That’s when I spotted the Browning. From the moment I pumped the action I could feel and hear the difference. That gun is so solid and smooth it made the Mossberg and Remington sound cheap and hollow. Not that they are but there was a clear difference.
When I asked the lady at the counter how much she said $400.00 and it comes with an extra slug barrel and two additional chokes I about fell over. It’s a black synthetic stock with flying Pheasants engraved in the receiver. One of the nicest features as far as I’m concerned in the bottom ejection. If I’m sitting in a duck blind with someone sitting beside me I’m not plinking them in the head with empty shells.
Do yourself a favor. Go back to Gander Mountain and pump the action on the Mossberg and then do the same with the Browning. It will put a smile on your face and you’ll know you made the right choice.
Here’s a picture of the receiver.
