Leslie Nordman, You got to be kidding right? Leslie the way I look at it , a dead coyote is a dead coyote no matter what you dispatch it with. As a matter of fact the 308 maybe just as good or better than a 22-250 at longer range. Leslie, one load I use for such critters is a 308, 125-grain Remington soft point with 47.0 grains of Accurate 2460 for a velocity 3,017. You will only have about 4 inches more drop at 400 yards with the 308 than you do with a 22-250, plus it will shoot much better in the wind. Coyotes on average around here will be bigger than in your part of the country and a 308 is not over gunned; my preferred choice is a STW 7mm for all those 400 to 600 yard shots. Accurately placing the shot is the name of the game when it comes to critter shooting. Whatever you shoot well will work, the Coyotes will never complain if you do your job.
