A single shot is the best with a 10/22R being the second choice. In the early stages I recommend loading one shell in the ruger. I used to be a hunter safety instructor and my recommendation is DO NOT purchase a lever action repeater. Stats clearly indicate a much higher percentage of accidents with the levers.
