I have loaded some really hot 45/70 ammo my self but it wont shoot good from my rifles. So I tamed it down ,pushing a 350 grain rn with 54grain varget at around 1950fps.

As a matter of fact, I seldom fire that 400-grain heavy load either. It has just too much recoil to be fun to shoot! My "standard" .45/70 load these days is the old Elmer Keith load of a 400-405 grain bullet with 53 grains of IMR 3031. It gives around 1800 FPS, and is alot easier on the shooter.

Sounds like your 350-grain load is a good one also.
