Default RE: APP 3F - had any luck?

I used a Knight Wolverine and a Thompson Center Black Diamond XR. In the Knight since XTP's are one of the most accurate loads, I started with 80 grains of APP 3f.In theBlack Diamond XRI loaded 100 grains of APP 3f and a 250 grain Shockwave. I was shooting off a bench rest bag at 50 yards. Both rifles are scoped. I shot three shot groups and then increased or decreased the powder charge by 5 grains.

Both rifles shot an approximate 4 inch group. At one point I had a 2 inch group going but it then had a flier that turned it into a 4 inch group. I tried 240 & 300 grain XTP's in .430 diameter with Harvester sabots. I then also tried 240 & 300 grain XTP's in .452 diameter. I also tried 250 gr Shockwaves and finally tried some 405 gr .458 diameter Remington FP with 100 grains of APP. All of these projectiles normally shoot well out of the two rifles selected, but today shooting APP 3f I would not trust any of the loads for hunting accuracy. I did not swab at all when shooting both rifles. The rifles loaded easy and cleaned easy.

Then, to double check the rifles, I loaded the Knight Wolverine with 85 grains of Goex 3f and a 240 gr XTP .452 and shot a 2" group. I then loaded the same charge and shot 300 grain XTP .452 and shot an 1-3/4 group. I then loaded 100 grains of Goex 3f and shot 250 grain Shockwaves out of the Black Diamond XR and it shot a 1-1/2 inch group at the 50 yard line. I was swabbing between shots with the Goex.

In the Knight I was shooting RWS 1075 primers. In the BDXR I was shooting Remington Kleenbore Primers.

Like I said, I was not impressed with the accuracy from the APP 3f. I think what is left will go down the barrel of my .44 caliber Revolver some afternoon.
