The generation 1 is the lowest for resolution. I'd buy one if I did much in the way of scouting for deer but my hunting partner does all of the scouting. Toy yes but a good one!
I have heard of several people saying the first generation is about worthless unless it is full moon and no clouds. They say like ranger said the second generation is better but takes getting used to. Have never talked to anyone that has used a third generation.
