Default RE: CVA Buckhorn Problems Shooting Maxi Hunter

ORIGINAL: andrewjoseph

I tried a few shots with some TC Maxi Hunter 350 Gr. that I bought at Wal Mart on close out to try. I used 100 gr. Shockey gold like I always do and use the same T7 primeers.

Instead of a loud, deep boom like normal my gun made more of a softer ploop kind of sound. I tried five shots cleaning each time and lubing with bore butter and the same result.

I fired three without swabbing and the same effect occoured.

Does anyone know why this would happen.?
Andrew, I had the same thing occur to me using ballets andGP conicals, while using APP powder. I was shooting a NEF Sidekick. Like cayugad said, I was told it was the lube. I did try removing the lube . Even then the results were not consistent. I have a pound of it, and it looks like its going to have to be used with sabots/powerbelts. I don't know, but itseems to bea combination of lube and poor seal.

Pyro should give you good results and blackpowder even better. I like 3f BP the best for lubed conicals and 80 grains is a good amount of charge for the maxi-huntergiving excellent 100 yard trajectory and good thump for hunting.

I know this isnt the best gun but Ive hunted successfully with it for three years and Ive never misfired or hang fired with it. I have shot only Powerbelts with it.
Ask Catus Magnus how many deer he has taken with his Buckhorn. Its more about who handles a rifle than the rifle. Sounds like its a deer killing machine when you hunt with it.
