Default RE: Bore Butter

you are going to get mixed thoughts on bore butter. I shoot an encore and here is my proceedure when shooting w/ 777, behind saboted SW's, hornady XTP's, Noslers, or the like. wet patch with TC #13 cleaner (windshield washer fluid mixed w/ rubbing alc. 50/50 works great too and can be made CHEAP!) follow the wet patch with 1-2 dry patches, make sure your barrel is DRY! Thats my shot to shot cleaning procedure. At the end of the day assuming it will not be used for a while, here is my clean up procedure. Pull my plug and let it soak in cleaning solution and scrub it w/ a brush, remove barrel and run a wet patch through to get majority of fouling. Next fill a bucket with HOT water and add 1-2 drops of dish soap. stick muzzle end into bucket and run a wet patch up and down to suction water in and out, repeat with breech end in bucket. Next scrub barrel breech threads. Take barrel out run several dry patches and ENSURE BARREL IS FULLY DRY. Next while barrel is still warm i apply a LIGHT coating of bore butter. then lube all moving part by the extractore with a little super lube and reassemble. Next i put some grease or thread tape on the plug and reinstall that. Finally i wipe the entire gun down with "lucas gun oil" its a red oil in a little bottle and works great! it doesnt evaporate as its about as thick as a 10W oil, a few drops go a long way!!!!

About the seasoning of the barrel.....IF it can occur it hasn't to mine since i clean it that extensivly. But i like a light coating in my barrel during storage, besides it smells good to meI prefer BB over oil based protectants because it is water soluable and thats the biggest ingredient in my cleaning solutions!just dont put too much or it can buildup in your breech area. If you are shooting balls or conicals this is great stuff to use. Before i shoot i run a dry patch thru to ensure there is no build up of BB. usually a little bit always comes out. Hope this helps you
