They will be attracted to salt, but then so will any deer or porcupines in the area. Amazingly, rabbits seem to be attracted to fox urine (probably the salt again). If you find an area of thick stuff, you can put some in the center of the area and then hang snares in all the trails. Willow thickets are really good for lots of snowshoe activity. I wouln't worry about luring them, just set where traffic is heavy. Check your state regs on legalities. In some states you can't trap small game and in many states you are required to have a deer stop or a break away devise to avoid catching/damaging deer.
