Where in New England do you hunt? I hunt turkeys in RI and CT. I'm still a novice at it, but man, its fun! Check out a CD or do a search for turkey vocalizations and listen to sound clips online. Learn to use a couple different calls. Box calls and slate calls are probably among the easiest, although they do have push button calls to that will probably get the job done. Remember, what gets them fired up today might do nothing tomorrow, but something else might do the trick so carry a few calls. Dont call too much, they will probably just hang up and try to make you (the hen) come to them.Playing hard to get is tough when they gobble at every cluck you make, but you want him to come in, not just gobble his head off out of range! A good slate type call for the beginner that wont break the bank is Knight and Hale's Ol' Yeller. Sounds good, easy to use, and it works!

Good luck!
