Default feeding area or Bedding area?

I have been in the woods this year and one of the things I have been doing is finding area's with 6 or more piles of droppings and sitting on those area's most of the time I see Deer how ever I was wondering are these feeding area's or Bedding area's ? becasue most of the one's I find are under white Oaks and some one told me they were bedding area's But I alwasy thought that deer sat in Super thick area's where they can hear or see things comming at them. Not in an Oak grove ? Not to mention I havent found ground impressions to signify that they were bedding there. I can see that maybe the same area's with loads of dropping I found in the pines could be beds, But Howdo you know with out snow or somewhat of an impression if there bedding there. Thanks for any and all info
John
