Snapping a cap is done in all muzzleloaders to get left over oil residue out of the barrel. I would run some clean patches down the barrel first, this will get the bulk of whatever the manufacturer used to prevent any rust from building, then snap a cap or two. I personally wouldn't use any bore butter, a wipe down of a little oil wouldn't hurt any gun surface. Allthough I'm sure if you are taking it out of the box it came in, I'm sure there is someting on the gun already. In that case a little oil when your done cleaning it would be smart.
