I don't think what I heard from the buck I shot was acually the "growl", but like Dan said I just call it that because that what people call it now.

I don't own one on those calls and probably never will. I don't see it working in the woods I hunt because the low number of mature bucks.

I think the new calls are good marketing. Not good enough for me though.[8D]
