RE: deer hunting skill or right place right time
It is skill 95% and 5% luck. If you have done your homework in scouting and preseason there is a good chance you will know where the deer are and their patterns to a certain degree. If you practice at the range you increase your skill with your weapon be it a rifle, bow, shotgun or muzzleloader knowing your range and making the shot is increased as well.
Being able to relax when a large deer you walks in front of you is luck and skill depending on how experienced you are. I don't care who you are but when the big one comes in it is still a rush. Maybe not as much as the first time but it brings your adreniline up at least a notch or two no matter how calm you say you are.
