dont recomend the 22 mag for coyotes. i have two of them Marlin 783 and Marlin 882. if you do shoot at a coyote, keep it within 100 yards, and use a little heavier grain bullet than normal.a 100 dollar scope isnt neccesary. i have a $30 Tasco 3x9x40 and gauranteed i can shoot just as acuratley than a gun with a $150 scope within 100 yards. i can drop squirrels from 80-100 yards granted i have a solid rest.

IMHO, if you buy a .22 mag get a Marlin. best quality bolt action rimfire than any other rifle brand and very affordable.
