RE: Is deer meat really needed?
I don't put the money I spend deer hunting against the meat. Yeah, if you factor in the cost of your gear and all of the supplies you buy and then put it up against the meat you get out of it - if any - pound for pound beef would come out much cheaper. But if you look at the money you spend as a vacation expense (after all that's really what you deer hunt is, isn't it?) then the meat you get out of it is actually the icing on the cake. Then it looks pretty cheap.
