I get an education in "magnumitis" every time i take a deer to a certain butcher shop in WV.I know the owner pretty well.i always tour the "deer yard." There areusually10-30 deerin a yard outside the shop, awaiting processing.
At least half the deer look like they have been shot with 75mm pack howitzers. Many are shot through both the shoulders and the hams. The butcher shop owner tells me that guys, mostly out of state hunters, bring their shot up deer to be processed and are surprised to get 10 pounds of meat back. They routinely accuse him of stealing their meat.
What do this prove? IMO nothing other than bad shot placement and possibly wrong bullet for the task. The same result can happen with a 3006 as well!!
As far as the butcher being accused about robbing meat that is part and parcel asan aweful lotoffolks have no clue what a skinned or unskinned deer has with regards to usable meat to begin with. I have gotten a lot myself being I sideline butcher game. Off topic sorry mallard!!
As far as the grizzly and 3006 yes it is doable, most in the know consider it marginal at best(which isn't myself, I have never hunted grizzly and really have no desire too at this point). You are free to use whatever you want but personally I'd like something a little more substantial in my hands that was actually designed to handle the larger bullet class. While the 3006 will accept all .308 bullets it certainly isn't effecient with all of those bullets I think most will agree 150-180 are its likes and as such even with todays bullets it's on the outside looking in when dangerous game are in the horizon.
Danagerous game other then bears usually come with a min. cartridge of the likes of375H&H. I also have not hunting in africa or in alberta for woodland bison where such a min. applies but I have no reason to doubt their expertise/suggestion, figure their must be a reason other than magnum craze!
I believesome arebetter for the application vs just getting by. The 06 is perfectly fine for upto moose in NA and non dangerous game elsewhere, as are others.If you think your tirty..tirty or 06 is up to the world task knock yourself out
