Default RE: Is the .308 really second class to the .30-06?

ORIGINAL: Roskoe

I'm fairly confident I could make 2800 fps with a 180 grain bullet, in the .308 Winchester. You would, however, have to beat the bolt open with a large mallet

Seriously, I do have a safe load that will propell a 180 gr. Speer Grand Slam at 2760 out of my 24" Shilen .308 barrel. I use WW748 and Winchester Brass.
Hey roskoe, all fun aside from the little boy, got a question, you might know. I never have got great accuracy from grand slams, but I can achieve some monster velocity with them. I took them on a moose hunt a few years back. Didn't get to use them, but out of a 300RUM, I could get 3400fps with 180gr grand slam, no pressure signs, krieger barrel 26", 95gr of H1000. You ever notice that? I since then moved to Accubonds.
