Although technically not a "streamer":
For early season trout here in the NE as far as streamers go.......start with a Black Wooly Bugger. That's my #1 "go-to" trout streamer in the early season.
You can fish it as a streamer with strips, or jerks, or dead drift like a nymph. Hang on because those big stockies love em'!
Size #8-10 &12 will be fine on a 2 or 3X streamer hook.
A little Black Crystal Flash mixed into the tail is deadly.
There's tons of other streamers that will work, but I find the hinges on a box full of different sized and color Wooly Buggers get a work out year in and year out!!......PS. They work great for bass too!
Tie some weighted, some HEAVILY weighted, and some unweighted......all will have a different action and can be fished with split shot on the leader as well to help get them down.
If your not near the bottom, your missing most of your fish.
