depends on how long you want it to last. 20 years without possibly rotting or stinking? then you have to remove the meat and bone of the tail. do this with pliers and a tail stripper then split the tail down one side and salt. this will last FOREVER. if its already been a few days then its prob too late so i would salt the end with meat and just keep it for a few years until it rots or stinks.
