RE: New bow for beginner
I'd have him look around, go to as many different bow shops as possible. Have him look at different makes & models, shoot as many as possible to get a feel of what fits him best. A certain model may seem awesome to you, but to him it may not. Everybodies different. I don't knock any brand on the market. Most are very good bows now. As far as all the bells and whistles I'm not sure if thats really necessary starting out, and neither is 300plus fps. faster bows are often more difficult to shoot, and learn on. Shorter axles and brace heights are often associated with fast bows, making them harder to shoot. I found in the hunting woods quiet bows pay big dividends over some faster noisey models.
This spring I purchased a new bow. I went to many pro shops, and archery dealers. I had a list of what I wanted in a bow. I shot many including Mathews, Hoyt, Reflex, Martin, and ended up with a Champion bow. I love it, but thats me! Tell your buddy good luck.
