RE: european mount process
gmbritts,
I just completed a eight point for my son about two weeks ago... I boiled it in a stock pan (large pan) for about an hour and a half. I used three scoops of borax (laundry detergent) and one scoop of oxy clean... I mixed the borax and oxy clean in a one gallon platic milk container and then added the contents to the water in the stock pan. I boiled it at a low to medium boil, pulling the skull out approximately every 15 minutes. I would scrape the "loose" stuff off for about five minutes and then put back into the "boil". After I was done boiling the skull, I spinkled about a half scoop of oxy clean directly onto the surface of the skull and rubbed it in with a old tooth brush. I rinsed the skull in cool water and let set over night. The skull came out extemely white and I didn't feel the need to "bleach" it. I then useda krylon glossto protect the finish. I mounted the skull on a3-D oak plaque with a brass plate. I completed the mountfor under $20.00 (-) the free piece of oak and the oxy clean. It would have been around $10.00 if I wouldn't have gotten the brass plate with my son's information on it.
