The wilderness thing was pushed thur by the outfitters Ass. so you can thank them, also the biggest percenage of large bulls and bucks don't even come out of wilderness and it is so small of area why should you care.
As for the points YOU as a NON-Res have a better chance to draw an area than I do.I put in for moose and sheepfor 15 years and never got a tag before the point sys, Now Non-res can get a tag before I ever do do to the limited numbers of them putting in.
Compare the odds between res and non-res of the areas in or near the red desert.
If you want to pay an extra 300 bucks for 45 lbs of meat go for it!
It's funny how there are so many hunters trying to hunt Wyo. when you say were a rip off. could it be we know how to manage our heards. Maybe you should look at the success rate between Wyo and other near by states.
Like I said do your home work and hunt non-fee areas
Actually I do my homework very well considering I don't even live there. Enough to know:
1. Outfitters lobby in EVERY state, as do many groups. Ultimately it is the state's responsibility to hear what they want to hear, and make the law, not outfitters. No other state has caved in to this joke of a law.
2. As I explained, the point feesactually amount to MORE than the trespass fees. A guy is SAVING $300 compared to waiting for units 60 or 61. That is the way the state set it up, not me.
3. Know how to manage herds? Of course everything is relative, but if you are a resident you know all too well WYF&G issues too many mule deer tags and the recent quality of bucks has declined as a result. My region G hunt in 02 was poor. The quality has declined there immensely.
4. There are many hunters that want to hunt all states public land. Heck, they own it. I don't blame them.
These are all facts. I've been doing myhomework for years.
I know Joey from way back, and I simply added my input to this thread to inform him of the facts, because it was asked. He has options and it would be nice if he knew all of them, notone. As I mentioned, for the record 98% of my hunting is self guidedon public land myself. I am not encouraging him to go one way or the other. It's just simply not financiallywise to pay for points and wait for units 57/60/61 given the fees. That is the one of the 3 options I'd nix.
