Head Space Info Needed
I have deceided to go it myself in the rebarreling of my 30-06 Mauser to a 35 Whelen. E-bay has been kind to me and I have found all the gun parts I need there. Custom forged bolt for scope clearence, need trigger guard (mine was pitted up pretty bad) new fully adjustable trigger w/integral safety. Now for the real work, I have ordered a finish reamer and picked up a modified 35 Whelen shell from Cabelas for the chamber work. The question I have is, can the 30-06 go-no go gauges be used to get a accurate head space measurement. One gunsmith told me that would be ok, but this is also the same guy who told me to stick a piece of tape on the butt of the bullet (about 3k) and the bolt should not close. I have a friend with a set of 06 gauges I can use so will be able to keep the cost down. What do you guys think?
