Gravitational Pull acts radially along the earth. In otherwords its always pulling you to the center of the earth. So once you get far enough away (i.e. outterspace) its just enough to keep you from flying away from the earth. Holding you in equilibrium, but since there are minimal to no drag forces a small amount of thrust will keep you orbiting...

But its almost impossible to find that equilibrium, we just get really close... thats why most sattellites fall out of the sky after like 30+ years... they slowly get pulled back in...

Why are we disscusing this again??? Amazing how the converstation strays...
