RE: .250-3000 Savage vs. the "new" Hornaday .30-30
I'm not sure that i'm aware of pointed bullets made to operate at 30/30 velocities..The 170gr.RN bullet has a SD of .252,and those bullets are made just for 30 WCF velocities,
I feel both of these cartridges are great deer rounds, and they both get overlooked by hunters & shooters that want something faster..
But don't think that the 250 Savage is that much better (if any)than the 30/30 ...It's just if you prefer one over the other or If you hand load one and not the other... But I prefer RN over pointed bullets in my 30-30... I see no advantage in using a pointed bullet at 30 WCF velocities...
The 30/30 is a wonderful cartridge and has killed alot of whitetails.
It is thought of as a brush gun but it is still able to reach out 200 to 250 yd.s and hit with a 170gr 30 cal. bullet with authority.
And as for your statement (the 250 Savage is alot more rifle than the 30/30 ever will be )
That is your opinion not my opinion or 1000's & 1000's of other hunters,
They have been millions of more rifles made in the 30WCF caliber than the 250-3000 cal. and the 30 WCF is still a strong seller.....and will be when we are both worm food.
I'm not knocking the 250 Savage, it is a great round...
