Hit the nail on the head.The Savage 99 used a rotary mag,or a stacked mag.So you can use pointed bullets in the 30/30 in it.
BUT
The 250-3000 is a great deer round.I have a 99 in a saddle carbine with saddle ring and it's been a great little rifle.I just wish some who ever owned it would have not cut the stock down.

Hey BA you do know you can get one in .308 win.Maybe he wan't one of them.
