RE: .250-3000 Savage vs. the "new" Hornaday .30-30
The "new" .30/30 is a joke-there's nothing much to the idea of a pointed bullet being greatly superior to a flatnose one at .30/30 velocities-the e=real advantage doesn't begin to show up at much less than at least 250 yards. So this "new" business is maore about selling ammo than ianything else!
On the other hand, a .250 Savage, although using smaller diameter bullets, is a lot more rifle than a .30/30 can ever be due to its' much higher MV withall bullet weights. If you get a Model 99 with 1/10" rather than the 1/14" twist ofthe older M99's, you can shoot 120-grain bullets in it at speeds up to 2800 FPS, giving a much better trajectory and terminal performance than a .30/30 will ever muster, regardless of bullet type used in one. Actually, if you load a .30/30 for a 99 Savage, you can use better bullets than thgose offered in this "new" Hornady 30/30 ammoanyway........
If your daddy wants real performance, get him a Model 99 in .284 Win., .308 Win., or .358 Win.....
