RE: I can't think of a witty AKC name for my chocolate lab!!
As said, he will name himself.
My swamp collie (golden) is named Dutch. I got him from a breeder on Dutch Island, GA. And he is bright orange (or red as we call it), like the Dutch (Netherlands) sports fans.
As he grew (he is nearly one now), he became a holy terror. Going around the house like a scared ape, knocking things over and jumping OVER the bar in the kitchen and into the sink. His nickname (which has pretty much stuck) has become "Monster" or as I refer to him casually "The Monster". So, instead of saying, I have to go pick up my dog, its I have to go pick up The Monster.
His AKC name became the Dutch Island Monster. Which makes sense what?
My parent's golden is named Toby. But nobody calls him that. Whenever Dad or I used to come home (when I lived there a few years ago), he would get so excited to see us he would litterally start chuffing or "snorting" like goldens often do. Hence, he is now known as "Snorts". Infact, swamp collies in general are refered around our camp not as golden's or collies, but as "a snorts" or "a monster", meaning one other than our two.
The name will work itself out, there is no rush to come up with it, you have a whole year with no penalty. If you have the primary name picked out then you just need to let the dog name himself.
