I have used my 30-06 for all the hunting this year, but the lousy thing just rips a three inch hole through the animals destroying too much meat.
Just a thought, but what makes you think the 270 Win and the 270 WSM are going to be any different? Shot placement, bullet weight/construction, andvelocity all play a part in this.
I would suggest maybe trying a 180 gr bullet like an Barnes X , Nosler Partition or Accubond up high in the lungs on deer size game with your "lousy" 30-06.Slip one between the ribs and get a 1 1/2" exit hole, very little meat damage and a very dead deer..
If you just want another new rifle, then just get one, dont blame it on the olnaught n six.
