RE: PA Hunters how was your first day?????
Got a doe late in the morning, through the lungs and out the other side breaking the left shoulder. It took off on three legs. I chased after it for 3/4 of a mile across two different farms til I could retrieve it. I hate making those broadside lung shots. Most of my shots have always been the frontal head on chest shot which gives good success. Lungs shots give a good trail to follow as blood is exhaled out of the wounds, but they run all over creation in the mean time.
Late that afternoon I got a second doe from the same stand. Learning from the mistake with the first doe, I aimed at the neck/body junction, and fired, doe instantly collapsed. I did this last year with my flintlock, and it will drop them hitting that area.
Did see buck running in the thickets behind me, couldn't get an antler count, so they moved on.
