Default RE: shooting ? please help

Bullet trajectory is based on a horizontal plain. Any shot above or below that plain will impact higher or lower from the horizontal. In most hunting situations shots will be from 200 yards and in. If you have a solid rest for the rifle and the shooter executes a perfect vitals shot the bullet will impact very near the aiming point. But when you extend the range, say to 300 yards and beyond, steep uphill or downhill shot placementwillvary substantially depending on caliber. I shoot a 308 Win. sighted in at 300 yards pushing a 150 grain bullet at 2910 fps. At a 35* incline or decline at 300 yardsmy bullet will impact 21/2" from my point of aim. Few hunters will take a shot at thisdistance, including me, unless the conditions are perfect. Notonly is the angle of the shot a consideration, but wind at extended yardages is probably more a factor then elevation. We owe it to the game we are hunting to make a quick, clean kill and in most I will try to stalk to within 200 yards or closer if the opportunity arises.
Good Hunting...
