RE: Marlin Model 336W .30-30 Win
Range Report: Well, went to the range today with my new (new to me, bartered for old pistol) 336W It was a good time.
I really, really like the 336. Shoots well; it is relatively mild, compared to a 30-06 or muzzleloader. I learned a couple things. I tend to shoot it a couple inches low at fifty yards, when shooting offhand; need to practice a little more. I also learned that when this thing heats up, groups open up/string. But best of all - BEST OF ALL - it is a accurate rifle. After getting on at fifty, I moved target to the 100yard line and let rifle cool a few minutes while shooting buddy's Mosin M44 (a Muzzle Blast special). Then I shot a four-shot group at 100 with the Marlin, and put four shots within a two inch circle. If I disregarged one of them, it was close to 1", I kidd you not. But enough of that - IT SHOT WELL! I was jazzed. Adjusted a bit, then shot a couple more groups - none were as good as that. Barrel was getting toasty.
All in all, a grand time. I like the 30-30; I should have gotten one of these years ago. I wish I'd gotten it two months ago. If my headcold eases, I'll take it hunting tomorrow morning.
