Default RE: Disappointed in my ammo

ORIGINAL: Garminator

This weekend I killed a boar with my Brow 270 wsm (which by the way wasn't grouping very well) and the round didn't even go through opposite side of the 130 lb boar[:'(]...I was shooting the Winchester Supreme 130 gr bst's & I though that it would have been plenty. I hit him square in the vitals and he still managed to run about 15 yds. Should I be using different ammo for hogs? any sugestions would be great, thanks.
Ballistic Silvertips are identical to Nosler Ballistic Tips, except for the color of the plastic point! You cannot expect EVERY critter you shoot to drop on the spot. 15 yards is not bad for after-shot travel. A better evaluation of the performance of this bullet would be to determine HOW FAR the bullet actually penetrated in that hog, and did it destroy the vital organs? (I'm assuming you hit it correctly!) Some people (not me!) are tickled to death when a bullet does not exit-their theory is that all the bullet's energy is expended inside the game, and not on a far hillside! Personally, I prefer holes on both sides, so there's a blood trail if I need one. If the animal drops on the spot, fine!

In a rifle like yours, I'd use a controlled-expansion bullet such as the Nosler Partition or the Nosler Accubond. I don't know what's available for you, since I load all my own ammo.
