If you plan on doing any tillage, you will need terraces ($$$$$$). Given enough time and enough rain (sometimes it just takes one), you will lose your topsoil and your ground will become almost sterile.

You can still do a plot, but you will need to do something like Leaf mentioned, and use mowing, spraying and overseeding in place of tillage.
