Jeff Ovinton is right. Go with Porro Prism binos. They are heaveier but you will get more banfg for the buck.
If I were looking for good cheap binos, I would look for some porro prism binos made in Japan. You can find Used Bausch & Lomb Discoverers or Legacy binos for your price range. Or try Nikon Action series. You can also get some 8x30 steiners (Germany) for 200 bucks. Don't ignore Russian Binoculars. Heavier but tough and also very good glass. Yukon 10 x 50's are fully multicoated, waterproof, bomb proof and under 100 bucks.
