RE: All around hunting round for 30-06?
I don't use an 06' but my deer sized game bullet is the 150 NBT out of 7mm rem mag. Others have worked but I just keep coming back to it when nov. rolls around as it shoots and works great.
If closer range the 180gr in astandard cup and core bullet is a goodchoice. Or step up to a better constructed bullet and if you want you can lower gr size. At longer ranges then you can drop down with the standards or premiums to gain trajectory, etc. Most 06' shooters I knowsettle in with 165gr bullet for deerthough each rifle is different and of course usage. Many here hunt elk, whitetails and deer sized with the same gun butnot wanting touse 2 bullets they elect to give up some speed for a 180 gr or move to a lighter premium for all the game they pursue. Boils down to matching your situation with the right bullet and picking the one that shoots best.
A150 gr vs180 gr of equal construction if the same spot is hit will not yield more damage. Velocity will be sustained longer, lower sectional density, etc combined for the result of larger holes.Put either behind the shoulder and it doesn't waste enough meat to matter! Hit bone and expect to be doing some extra trimming!
Good luck
