RE: Deer hunting dog killers
Oh boy! Another hot one!<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> Do I think shooting a dog for running deer in a state where dog hunting for deer is illegal is the right thing to do? ALMOST always..NO! Would I ever do it? ....probably, given the right circumstamces.
Here is my take on this. Allowing your dogs to run free is a complete a total lack of respect to others. Forget hunting scenarios. How about maybe...the dogs chased my kids and scared the heck out of them! Or worse, bit one of them! That is different, they bite one, they die, I don`t care if the dog is found on the front porch with little Jenny watching!
Might be a little personality quirk, but I have serious issues with people who display a lack of respect for others, not just me but anyone. Your dogs running wild on anothers land falls squarely in that category. At least by my definition. If I can find the owners, and I have done this on more than a few occasions, I am polite but firm. Usually this is all it takes. Unfortunately that does not always work. Some people must learn to respect thy neighbor the hard way, and they will learn. Even if it means a trip to see the judge after all is said and done!
Funny this thread came up so soon after the season. This problem reared its ugly head this year for me. It was easy to find the owner of the pack of 4 dogs. After denying that the dogs ever got out, we watched a little video clip of their pets chasing deer past my stand two days in a row. I even offered to buy them chain and collars. Next day, the dogs are right back. Second visit was all it took. Dogs are still alive, and will spend the rest of their natural life on a chain.
Now, what if the dogs have no collars, and you cannot find the owner? I have yet to encounter this one, and hope I never do. If I do, there will be an abbreviated version of baseball.....two strikes, your out!
