RE: 32- Team Official Thread
Well boys, I blew it. I was covered up in deer this weekend and just couldn't make it happen. I saw 4 shooter bucks that I had never seen before, all in an area I've hunted all season. I got a 10 yard shot at a nice big fork yesterday that had a sticker out the front like a shovel on a caribou. He spotted me with my deer hat on at about 50 yards and walked right in to me, probably thinking he was going to score even if she was the ugliest, goofiest looking chick in the bar... It happened so fast that I'm still not sure what happened but the release went off before I had settled the pin, don't know whether it was because he was too close, or it was the sharp downhill angle, or I got rattled and spazzed out from the shock that the deer hat actually worked but the arrow went in high, just under his backbone and came out above his lung on the far side. I stalked him for the rest of the day without a shot and Wendy (who was up above on a ledge) even watched him mount a doe. Once he ran into the doe and started chasing for a while through the alders he quit bleeding. I didn't hit anything vital so I'm fairly certain he will survive it but man am I sick to my stomach just thinking about it. The last deer I wounded was over 20 years ago and that one still haunts me. I know this one will be with me for a long time...[&o] I'd be out there again right now but it's blowing 25 and is supposed to be hitting 50 by this afternoon and that's down here in town, up on the mountain's another story all together. Sorry for all the bummer news. It's been a rough season.
