No Bore Butter. No way am I going to put that lard, sperm whale blubber, monkey grease down my barrel.

I watched the instructional CD that came with my Omega. Greg Ritz of Thompson/Centeris showing this dufas how to use and clean his brand new Omega. Greg first tells the guy that the Omega is a high tech gun, capable of shooting these new aerodynamic saboted Shockwave projectiles laser accurate to 200-225-even 250 yards. He then turns right around and tells the guy that after cleaning the gun he needs to use bore butter to "season the barrel like a cast iron skillet". He even said it with a straight face, which I find even more amazing.

Which is it Greg - Ahigh tech firearmor a cast iron skillet? Should he go deer hunting with the gun or fry some chicken in it?

I certainly don't intend to offend anyone who likes and uses bore butter. I am struck, however, by the irony of a representative of T/C saying that the Omega is a high tech gun and you need to "season the bore like a cast iron skillet" with bore butter.

My advice would be to clean your inline thoroughly with whatever you find works well for you. I use the 50:50 alcohol/WW fluid. If it gets really dirty I might use a patch of Birchwood-Casey bore scrubber around a copper brush. I protect from rust with Birchwood-Casey Sheath, a great protectant that leaves no oily residue.
