You need not be worried. The 270 or 30/06 will handle any hog in the US and any whitetail or smaller in the US. Even larger animals like Elk, but at shorter distances than the Whitetail. We shoot hogs with 44Mag rifles and 30/30...Very effective...I would select bonded or partition ammo for hogs or thicker skinned game
