Default RE: RIFLE SUCCESS POLL

I like the elk ambush technique. I did the same thing this year and you know what, the elk didn't do what we thought they'd do. In fact we thought they would run directly at us they went the exact opposite direction. The elk in the valley in front of us were running away from us and they were too far for a shot. But we were right about being on an escape rout and elk nearly ranover us coming from behind. I've never had so much blood rushing on a hunt before, for a split second I was actually afraid I was going to get hurt, elk were running literally within feet of me on both directions. Didn't get a shot off at the big bull so I got the 4X5 in the group. Had to wait till the herd ran by to stand up and shoot, I thought if they saw me they might turn on me cause they had already been shot at. Hunting public land during a general is tough enough, especially without horses, so why say its not ok to do that. If I have to pick between being in the 80% non-successful and 20% successful I'll pick the 20% anytime.

Elk 600 lbs. - 250 yds
Muley 180 lbs - 350 yds
Muley 150 lbs - 80 yds

All 7mm rem mag with 150gr partition handloads.
