Default RE: Caught a Poacher

I guess I'll get my two cents worth in before the topic gets closed!

Mod70 - great job! It's unfortunate that you have to go to such lengths to protect your property.

Stiper Phil - I don't believe that what Mod70 did constitutes vigilantism. He didn't take the law into his own hands, and by his account he didn't confront the poacher. What he did do is see a crime and report it to the proper authority. I don't want this to sound like a flame, but I disagree with your viewpoint. You're take on this is not to play cop, but to play prosecutor. You decide which crimes deserve prosecution, which should be ignored.

Sorry, but your arguement sounds like "I don't want to get involved". What if the poacher were trespassing on your property? Perhaps stealing from you? Shouldn't we pick up the cell phone and report it to the proper authorities. I think the indifference of good people to criminal acts is worse than poaching.
